A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN
Devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague was practiced for over two over two centuries in Europe.  Originally the statue came from Spain. It was brought to Bohemia by Maria Manriquez de Lara, a Spanish Princes in whose family the statue had been treasured highly as a miraculous treasure. This noble lady presented the cherished image to her daughter Princes Polizena Lobkowiz. After the death of her husband in 1623, Princess Polizena resolved to spend the rest of her life in work of piety and charity and gave this miraculous statue to the Carmelites of Prague to appease their hunger. She gave it to the monks of the monastery saying these prophetic words:

I give you what I price most highly in the world  “HONOUR AND RESPECT THE CHILD JESUS AND YOU SHALL NEVER BE IN WANT”.

These words community prospered spiritually and even temporarily. The shrine soon became a refuge for the monks when they were beset by difficulties of body and soul. The most devout of these monks was Cyrillus in 1630. The Novitiate of the Carmelites was removed to Munich during the disturbances of the Thirty years War. After the enemy withdrew from the city. Father Cyrillus who was sent by his superiors from Munich to the convent at Prague helped to restore the Sacred statue to its original place of worship. But the statue was found mutilated and Father Cyrillus shed many tears of sorrow while praying before his beloved Infant Jesus.

After Father Cyrillus knelt before the mutilated statue absorbed in his favorite devotion, he distinctly heard these words:-

“HAVE PITY ON ME AND I WILL HAVE PITY ON YOU. GIVE ME MY HANDS AND I WILL GIVE YOU PEACE”.

These words were a command which he sought to fulfill. A very sick patient gave him a generous donation for the repair of the statue But the pair – bought an entirely new statue and placed it in the oratory. Contrary to the express instruction of the mysterious voice. Scarcely had it been installed. It was struck by a falling candle stick and broke to pieces. Besides, the Prior became dangerously ill and resigned his office. It is a clear manifestation of the Infant’s displeasure at the indifference shown to the original statue.

The succeeding prior received another donation for this purpose and had the original statue repaired. The Divine Infant manifested His pleasure in a wonderful way. The Prior fell a victim to city wide pestilence. He vowed that if he is restored to health he would offer Holy Mass for nine successive days before the image. His favour was granted and he fulfilled his pledge. He assigned a special place of honour to the statue and it removed to the church adjoining the monastery so that people also would benefit by this Miraculous Infant. Favors were granted and miracles took place ever after that since then, the statue of the Holy Infant became venerated throughout Prague. The
devotion has spread far and wide because of the marvelous cures, conversions and miracles wrought by the Divine Infant Jesus among His faithful worshippers in all parts of the world.

LET US PRAY
O Miraculous Infant Jesus! We prostrate before you Sacred image and beseech you to cast a merciful look on our troubled hearts. Let your tender Heart, so inclined to pity, be softened by our prayers and grant us that grace for which we ardently implore you. Take from us all affliction and despair, all trials and misfortunes with which we are laden. For Your Sacred Infancy’s sake hear our prayers and send us consolation and aid that we may praise you with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever, Amen.

THANKSGIVING PRAYER
O Most gracious Infant Jesus, I kneel before you and offer you my fervent thanks for the blessings you have showered on me. I shall always praise your mercy and confess that you alone are my helper and my protector. Henceforth, my entire confidence shall be placed in you. I shall proclaim all over, your mercy and generosity. May your great love and the great deeds performed be acknowledged by all. May the devotion to your infancy extend more and more in the hearts of all mankind. May all who experience your assistance be ever grateful to your Infancy. May they praise and glorify you for all eternity. Amen

VERY EFFICACIOUS PRAYER
O Sweet Jesus, filled with admiration and reverence we praise Thee, we love Thee with our whole heart and our whole soul. We are heartily sorry for our sins; we entreat Thee to give us strength to overcome them and we resolve never to offend Thee again. Hence forth we wish to serve Thee faithfully and love our neighbor as ourselves.
O Most Miraculous Infant Jesus we beseech Thee to cast a merciful look on our troubled hearts. Let Thy tender Heart, so inclined to pity, softened at our prayers and grant us that grace which we ardently implore (mention your request). Take from us the affliction and despair, the trials and misfortunes with which we are laden. For the sake of the Holy Mother, hear our prayers and send us consolation that we may praise Thee with the
Father and the Holy Spirit forever. Amen

PRAYER FOR GRACE
All powerful and glorious INFANT JESUS, You have taught us to call the Almighty God as our Father; Grant us the blessings to follow your teachings as you are the way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).  We are burdened with numerous troubles in our hearts. We come to you to unburden all our affliction, despair, trails and misfortunes, as we firmly believe you saying that “Come to me, all you are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mathew 11:28).  Grant us the Grace to unburden our sins and lead the peaceful life on the Earth, so that we and our entire family will praise the Almighty God with you and the Holy Spirit forever and ever in the eternal life in Heaven. Amen.
